Join the Food Revolution With Me

Image
I hope you were able to watch and learn from The Truth About Cancer: A Global Quest docu-series. Perhaps you even invested in the videos— I did —and plan on watching again to get the maximum benefit and so you can pass the videos on to friends and family. I hope you got that there is not just one way to heal from cancer without harm to your body, but multiple. You can put together a protocol that works for you—with or without the help of a practitioner. I told you I would be passing on valuable educational opportunities so you could be as knowledgeable as me about your health. If you look to the so-called healthcare system (really should be called disease management ) you may not succeed in getting healthy. You really are in control of your health. Talk About Food Getting to the heart of how we become healthy and heal from disease or avoid disease in the first place, we must look at food . Coming up this weekend is the start of the Food Revolution Summit . Are you worried about what’s...

I Have Cancer—6 Tips

Image
"You have cancer," is still the worst phrase a person can hear. It changes your life forever. Sadly, you become a member of a growing class of people who feel the grief and vulnerability of having a disease that not only kills, but the conventional treatment prescribed often harms and leads to death. I'm not going to make this post about my feelings toward the conventional approach cancer patients are subjected to. But I will be firm about what you should do. Remember you are ultimately in charge of your health. Not the doctor. Not your family or friends. YOU! You need to make the decision for YOU. Because you have to live with the disease. It's happening in your body. Not the doctor's. Not your spouse's. Not your friend's. YOU! 1. Don't Panic The doctor will insist you need to get treatment started right away. They will role out the conveyer belt in front of you and urge you to jump on. Enjoy the ride! Don't panic. It took many years for the tumor...

Please Don't Keep Us in the DARK

Image
Despite the fact that nine out of 10 Americans support mandatory GMO labeling, the U.S. House of Representatives recently passed H.R. 1599, otherwise known as the Deny Americans the Right to Know – or DARK Act. The actual name of the bill is more nefarious IMHO: the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015. Really? Can someone tell me how labeling is "Safe and Accurate" when GMO ingredients in our food are not permitted to be labeled? And any group ( Hello   Non-GMO Project ) labelling foods found to be free of GMO ingredients is not allowed?  Poof! I was steamed about the bill passing! Earlier in that day I made a special trip to let my Congressman's representative in the field know I was dead set against it. It was a matter of freedom, health and State's Rights. When I saw it had passed and my congressman had voted for it... Well, let's just say bought and paid for by big business . If you think the system is rigged, you might want to check this non-partisan...

Attitude: Vacation Revisited

Image
Probably the most enjoyed vacation we've taken lately was back in 2011 when we toured the Southwest National Parks and surrounding sights with friends. I thought you might like to revisit the trip or perhaps you're seeing the post for the first time. You may discover some places you'd like to visit with your family. Come on... let's go! Photo by Mike Eisenhard Places To Go ~ Things We Saw Starting with Zion National Park in Southwest Utah, the neat and upscale town of Springdale invites travelers to the entrance of this majestic, wow-factor, geologic wonder—my favorite park on the trip. A convenient shuttle runs through town and delivers you to the park entrance and visitor center. Boarding a double shuttle, we could disembark at any stop in the park. Our first morning, we chose to hike the Watchman Trail. We made our way up a short canyon passing colorful displays of wildflowers to an overlook with a panoramic view of the valley below and the Watchman Peak standing at ...

Don't Get Shot by a Magic Bullet

Image
I am continually amazed at the reaction of so many who run out and buy "the next best thing to make you skinny, heal your ills or get you ready when the mood is right." Hello, people—there is no magic bullet.  The magic bullet is over there with the unicorn, the genie in the bottle and the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The Magic Bullet Trend Ever since companies started to make food more convenient, quick and easy, Americans have been moving away from preparing fresh foods. Sitting around the family table to enjoy a truly home-made healthy meal used to be the norm, until families began to fill their hours with activities (kids' sports, drama, music, etc). Now a quick visit to the fast-food drive-thru more often passes for the evening meal as taxi-driver-mom tosses nuggets of non-food with accompanying sugar-laden sauces into the back seat on the way to the next activity. On top of that, the trend to vilify oils in our diet and add sugar to enhance favor has led...

New Year's Resolutions

Image
Broken Promises It happens every year. Lengthy lists are made of promises to ourselves that we will  lose weight , save money, join the gym,  eat healthy , learn a new skill, and on and on. Gym managers love it! They get new members who sign up, pay up and show up for a time until things go back to normal with only the die-hard regulars coming in. Purveyors of the latest diet fade love it! They sell diet books, recipe books and special food until the next hot fade comes along. What's wrong with the last one? Didn't lose weight? Too hard? I caught a glimpse of the  Hollywood Cookie Diet ! Are you serious? I don't even want to know how that's supposed to work. Folks, we make it too hard. We look for the quick fix when  what we need is re-education . We have gotten so far off track from what our bodies need to be healthy. Health science continues to identify all these marvelous nutrients that do wonderful things in our body and then they try to bottle it. Where did the ...

8 Tips to Lose Your Gut

Image
Rock Man at Tamarack Lake, CA Rather than show you an ugly picture of belly fat or the flat stomach of a twenty-year-old... I bring you Rock Man. He spouts wisdom to help you lose that gut you're tired of feeling around your middle. Maybe you're not interested in getting a rock-hard stomach (although it's easy to attain... right, Rock Man?), but you'd like to get rid of that roll. Read on. Building muscle, losing fat, and improving overall health is dependent on one very important hormone—insulin. Follow these tips to control your insulin and lose that fat! First, let me say that losing fat is less about cutting down on fat in your diet and more about cutting out sugar or foods that quickly turn to sugar like breads, pasta, rice and corn. In fact, healthy fats keep you satiated, which means you are less likely to be hungry soon after eating. So let me just say it... Fats don't make you fat, sugar does. Now on to the tips: 1. Feed Your Belly-Zapping Hormone Eat as c...

Acid vs Alkaline in the Body—Is it Important?

Image
Why should I be concerned about foods that make my body acidic? Does that mean I shouldn't eat oranges or lemons? What's this acid vs alkaline thing all about anyway? It's likely the last time you heard the word pH was in high school chemistry and it set your head spinning. You've probably never heard that your body's pH level is important for good health. So let me try to make the subject clear for you. You want your body to be alkaline.  A neutral pH is 7.5 (neither acidic nor alkaline). Anything below that is acidic and not good for your body. The foods you eat contribute to your body being either acidic or alkaline. Your body strives to be alkaline.  Your body seeks to be alkaline by drawing on alkaline-forming minerals. Where does your body get these alkaline-forming minerals?... Your bones! Calcium is leached from your bones to balance the acidic environment, attempting to become more alkaline. Not a good scenario—can you say osteoporosis? An acidic body is su...

4 Roots to Optimum Wellness

Image
root   n . 1 Part of a plant that provides support, draws water and nourishment, and stores food.  2 Source of action. 3 An essential part. Let's review what I've addressed in separate blog posts about how to achieve optimum wellness. I believe there are four essential parts to being healthy. I call them  roots . If you make healthy choices in each root area, you will achieve optimum wellness—feeling supported, watered, nourished and full of energy. The four roots of optimum wellness are  diet ,  exercise ,  sleep  and  attitude . Root One: Diet It is not a coincidence that disease is on the increase at the same time our diets consist of more artificial and sugar-ladden ingredients, meats and dairy laced with antibiotics and hormones. Cancer has now become the number one killer. And, its a big money maker for the health and pharmaceutical industries. Here's a list of things to avoid in foods: Hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils (aka trans ...
